These 3 are the only Ghost Horses (both types) born from the same sire but different dams. Ghost Horses are not only brave horses, they are the most valuable commodity in the Tiger Horse breed. Without them, we would be spending years and several lifetimes trying to get color into our new herds. Ghost Horses are mostly white. Click on the blue link above to learn and see more of them.
Whilst all Tiger Horses are brave horses, the Ghosts seem to be the leaders in every herd. These brave horses will always be the first to check out suspicious
activity in the bushes. Ghost Horses can be seen running up to fences to get a closer look at what lies beyond, while the rest of the herd remains erect and braced, and waiting for the OK to relax or run.
Consequently, putting Ghost Horses together for the first time needs gradual introduction, for the resident horse will fiercely protect its territory against invaders. The newcomer will also insist on being accepted. It
always takes longer for Ghost Horses to integrate into a new herd, as they just refuse to take "no" for an answer or be obedient to remaining on the outskirts until accepted. Ghost Horses expect you to respect them. No
"if's" or "buts."
Wonderful stories exist from ancient times telling how during battle, these brave horses would fight long after a rider had been knocked from the saddle. It is
testimony to the leadership and protective qualities of these very beautiful animals. On the other hand they are as gentle as lambs with humans, making friends immediately with every visitor. Horses like these need our
special protection and understanding. They don't tolerate abuse of any kind.
It is rare indeed for a same couple of horses to produce more than one Ghost Horse in a lifetime of annual
breeding, unless of course one is breeding 2 Ghost Horses to each other. Finding suitable individuals to breed to each other is another story. These 2 full sisters are particularly beautiful and represent the 2
types of Ghost Horse found in the LP gene. While Eagle Feather is a Ghost Horse, her little sister Bold Eagle is a Snowcap Ghost. One hits pay dirt when one of these are born. In recent studies done by a group
within the Appaloosa Horse Industry, it was stated that while both types produce foals that inherit a copy of the LP gene, the Snowcap's foals are usually born colorful and rarely have to evolve into their spots. We
have found the distribution to be pretty equal between these two types of color producing horses. |
